The standard calculators assume temperate conditions, which is why a pace that feels fine on paper can fall apart at 10am in Klang Valley. Use the Heat and Humidity Pace Adjuster to convert a goal pace into something realistic for the conditions you are actually running in.
VDOT is a single number that represents your current running fitness, derived from a recent race result. Coaches use it to set training paces so that easy runs stay genuinely easy and hard sessions land in the right intensity band.
It is a good starting point, not a promise. Predictions hold up best when the race you enter is recent, run at full effort, and at a distance close to the one you are predicting. Predicting a marathon from a 5K time will almost always be optimistic.
Pace based tools assume relatively flat road running. For trail and hill races the numbers will read faster than what you can actually hold, so treat them as a ceiling rather than a target.
