Race Finder

Answer a few questions and we will pull races that fit, from the full Malaysian calendar.

Distance is only recorded for part of the calendar, so leaving this on any distance will show you more races.

How to pick a race you will actually enjoy

The best race for you is usually the one you can get to without a 4am drive, at a distance you have already covered in training, on a date far enough away that you can prepare properly. Everything else is detail. Runners who pick on prestige alone tend to end up under trained on an unfamiliar course, and that is not a fun morning.

Give yourself enough runway

A rough guide: four weeks is enough to prepare for a 5K if you are already running, eight to ten weeks for a 10K, twelve to sixteen for a half marathon, and sixteen to twenty for a marathon from a reasonable base. If the race you want is sooner than that, either pick a shorter distance on the day or find a later edition.

Then build the plan

Once you have a date, feed it into the Training Plan Generator to get week by week sessions, and use the VDOT Calculator to set the right pace for each of them. Closer to the day, run your goal through the Heat and Humidity Pace Adjuster so your target reflects the conditions you will actually race in.

Common questions

How do I choose my first race?

Pick something within three months, close enough to drive to on the morning, and short enough that you can finish it comfortably rather than only just. A 5K or 10K in your own state removes travel stress and lets you focus on the running. Save the destination marathon for when you know what race day feels like.

How far ahead should I register?

Popular races in Kuala Lumpur and Penang fill months in advance and raise prices as they go, so early registration saves money and guarantees a slot. Smaller local races usually stay open until a few weeks before. Either way, registering early is also a commitment device, which is half the point.

What is a realistic gap between races?

For a 5K or 10K, every three to four weeks is manageable. For a half marathon, allow at least a month between hard efforts. For a marathon, two or three per year is plenty for most runners, and one properly prepared marathon beats three survived ones.

Are the results here official?

Event listings are compiled from organiser sources and updated regularly, but registration links, prices and dates can change at short notice. Always confirm on the organiser page before paying.
